Finding Serenity at Napa Lake: My Review of Shangri-La Yanwai (Boundless Wild | THE HORIZON)

When planning a trip to Shangri-La, one of the biggest choices you’ll make is deciding where to base yourself. Do you stay in the heart of the historic town, or do you head out into the grasslands for the views?

During my recent trip, I opted for the scenery and checked into Shangri-La Yanwai · Boundless Wild | THE HORIZON, staying in their Wu Yin 270° Grassland, Lake, and Snow Mountain View Room.

If you’re considering this spot for your Shangri-La itinerary, here is my honest breakdown of what it’s like.

The Highlight: That 270-Degree View

Let’s start with the absolute best part of this hotel: the view facing Napa Lake (Napahai).

The room features massive floor-to-ceiling windows framing wide-open grasslands, seasonal lake waters, and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Sitting by the window with a warm drink while watching horses grazing across the meadow is genuinely therapeutic.

Beyond the view, the room had a few comforts I appreciated:

· Built-in Oxygen Diffusion: The room included an oxygen-diffusion system.

· Whole-House Heating: The water and floor heating systems keep the space warm and cozy, no matter how chilly it gets outside.

The Catch: Location & Accessibility

While the setting is breathtaking, the location comes with a trade-off that every traveler should know before booking.

It’s Isolated: The hotel sits tucked away from the main city area. There aren't many shops, convenience stores, or dining options within walking distance.

Getting Around: Every time you want to head out for food, coffee, or sightseeing, you’ll need to coordinate a ride or get a driver.

Who Should Stay Here?

· Book it if: You want a quiet, picturesque escape for 1 or 2 nights to focus on photography, slow living, stargazing, and nature.

· Skip it if: You prefer immediate convenience, love walking straight out of your lobby into bustling streets, or want easy access to late-night food. If that’s your style, staying inside Dukezong Ancient City will be a much better fit.

Final Thoughts

If your goal in Shangri-La is to unwind and wake up to some of the most panoramic landscapes in Yunnan, Shangri-La Yanwai delivers on every front. Just plan your meals and transport ahead of time so you can sit back and enjoy the horizon!
