Why I Can’t Stop Thinking About the Broth at Lai Foong Lala Noodles in KL

If you ever catch me wandering through Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, there is one place I am guaranteed to stop for a meal: Lai Foong Lala Noodles (丽豐啦啦米).

I first stumbled across them while browsing listings on Trip.com, where they often pop up as Lee Feng or Li Feng Lala. Holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand status for three consecutive years, this spot is widely considered a local hidden gem—and after my first visit, I can tell you the recognition is 100% deserved.

The Aromas That Hit You Before You Sit Down

The moment you walk up to the restaurant, the scent hits you before you even grab a table. You can actually hear the woks firing in the kitchen as crushed ginger, garlic, and chilies get tossed into screaming-hot iron pans.

When your bowl finally lands in front of you, the aroma of heat and Chinese yellow rice wine (Shaoxing wine) rises straight off the broth.

My Order: The Signature Lala Bihun

I always go for their classic Lala Bihun (Clam Rice Vermicelli), and every single visit delivers on three exact things:

The Broth: This is the absolute star of the show. It’s rich, punchy, deeply savory, and loaded with that signature ginger-and-rice-wine heat. With every sip, you get this incredible soothing, soul-warming sensation that coats your throat—pure comfort food.

The Clams: They do not stint on the portion size. You get a massive pile of sweet, fresh clams that add a natural ocean sweetness to balance out the strong ginger notes.

The Vermicelli: Thin rice bihun is the only way to go here. It acts like a sponge, drinking up that glorious broth so every bite is packed with flavor.

My Verdict

Lai Foong is one of those rare spots where the hype completely aligns with reality. If you love rich, comforting, punchy soups, put this right at the top of your Kuala Lumpur food itinerary.
